Environment

We are aware of the importance of looking at the three pillars of sustainable development in context so that we can seek to maximise economic and social well-being without harming the environment.

Environmental Issues Are Important to Us

We are aware of the importance of looking at the three pillars of sustainable development in context so that we can seek to maximise economic and social well-being without harming the environment. Environmental issues therefore play an increasingly important role in our operations, and the Group has begun mapping the environmental impact of its operations. The mapping of the carbon footprint, based on the information currently available, lays the foundation for improved performance through awareness-raising among stakeholders and specific remedial action. The goal is to achieve even better control of the carbon footprint, reduce it as much as possible and carbon offset the remainder, thus contributing to carbon-neutral operations.

The subsidiaries have each been on their own journey in terms of environmental issues, but now, following organisational changes, the goal is for them to be synchronised in these matters. The implementation of the joint Environmental Policy of Ósar and its subsidiaries will take place at the beginning of 2022. It will place a joint emphasis on the importance of managing the Group’s operations for the benefit of the environment, increase knowledge and general awareness and improve processes that will ensure that all employees pay attention to environmental aspects in their daily work. Regular measurements are made of the Group’s carbon footprint, and employees will be kept informed of the results.

The Group focuses on minimising the environmental impact of its entire value chain, creating a safe operation without any negative impact on the environment, and thus meeting both the needs of the present and future generations.

Ósar’s Carbon Accounting

Many factors affect the environment, and it is important to take into account the factors regarding the operations. The factors covered by Ósar’s carbon accounting for the year 2021 are divided between the following scopes according to the Green House Gas Standard.

  • Scope 1: Fuel consumption of vehicles
  • Scope 2: Electricity and hot water consumption
  • Scope 3: Waste, domestic and international flights

In 2022, emphasis will be placed on increased information gathering for more emission factors under Scope 3. As a result, it can be assumed that the figures will increase when environmental factors such as employee travel, transport and distribution of purchased goods, etc. are taken into account.

Icepharma’s Carbon Sequestration

Icepharma has been working on environmental goals and Action Plans since 2019, and Icepharma’s Environmental Policy was published that year. The company’s carbon footprint has been calculated since 2018. Icepharma has worked systematically to reduce the company’s environmental impact and reviewed the company’s carbon footprint with an emphasis on improved performance. Icepharma has been carbon sequestering its operations in collaboration with Kolvid since 2020.

Parlogis’ Environmentally Friendly Product Distribution

Environmental considerations are taken into account in Parlogis’ operations, which are arranged in such a way as to cause the least possible environmental damage. All rubbish and hazardous waste is sent for recycling or disposal to the appropriate bodies. A large part of Parlogis’ shipments to customers are sent in reusable plastic boxes that are recycled hundreds of times, thus avoiding unnecessary packaging. The company has also worked systematically in 2021 to switch to LED lighting in warehouses to promote energy savings. At the same time, the operation is by nature very environmentally friendly, as the distribution of products from many of our customers is combined into one shipment at a time. Thus, e.g. a pharmacy will receive one shipment of products from multiple marketing companies instead of receiving shipment from each marketing company individually.

Joint Environmental Policy

The implementation of the joint Environmental Policy of Ósar and its subsidiaries will take place at the beginning of 2022. It will place a joint emphasis on the importance of managing the Group’s operations for the benefit of the environment, increase knowledge and general awareness and improve processes that will ensure that all employees pay attention to environmental aspects in their daily work. Regular measurements are made of the Group’s carbon footprint, and employees will be kept informed of the results.

Ambitious Goals

We intend to set ambitious environmental goals each year. These goals are introduced to employees as well as educating them on how we can work together to set environmental goals and the benefits that reducing the Group’s carbon footprint has for everyone.

The implementation of a joint Environmental Policy will focus the following key emphases:

  • Seek ways to reduce the carbon footprint
  • Meet the requirements of environmental laws and regulations and make possible improvements
  • Utilise resources wisely, minimise waste and maximise recycling
  • Organise the Group’s operations in such a way as to prevent negative environmental effects
  • Minimise the negative environmental impact of the Group’s transport vehicles
  • Promote employees’ environmental awareness
  • Encourage consultation with employees, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders to promote environmentally friendly product selection

These key emphases will support our ambitious goal of 2022 carbon neutrality in the Group’s operations.
